mango tree falling over (forum)

mango tree falling over starts with ...
my carrie mango tree is 4' tall and falling over. the bottom branches are too heavy to support. in ground for 10 month and has tons of flowers (south florida). should I cut off bottom branches or stake it higher (currently staked around trunk. ???????

Hi there - Carrie mangoes are popular to grow in the US . Not sure if we have that variety in Australia. Anyway regarding your problem I would definately stake it higher . You should also cut off the top part to induce side shoots. This will keep the tree from getting bigger and too thin at the top . What are other people's thoughts ?

My carrie mango is the exact same size, age, and is doing the same thing. I researched the forum Michael recommended and found most people agreed that with a tree that age you should remove some of the flowers. That is what I did. It seemed a lot of people don't agree on staking so I decided against it. My tree popped right up.
