New Paw Paw plant dying (forum)

Hello,

I recently purchased two paw paw plants- one yellow bisexual and one red bisexual. I have planted them in my garden approximately 1 meter apart so the growing conditions are the same however the yellow one looks great, the red one has drooped and all the leaves are hanging against the stem (the only reason the stem is still standing up is that I have tied it to a stake). The plant and leaves are all still green (it is about 30cm tall) We have had plenty of rain lately so I am not sure what the problem is. Any suggestions?

You said it in your second last sentence. Too much water. We too had a lot of rain and I lost 6 of my 8 pawpaw trees. Some were 2 years old.

Hey Leanne
I think Kim has it in one and by the end of this week you will be seeing a lot more rain, something to look forward to eh?.
Strike your own seeds from fruit that you like, some say you gamble with male plants but you see very few of them nowdays. Plant plenty then thin them out.

I agree. I had four mature plants in a row, one died back severely last week. I chopped it down and dug it up- most of the roots were a fowl-smelling mush (gross). The other three are OK.
