Deborah Thomson starts with ... A friend of mine has a nectarine tree growing in Melbourne and it is fruiting NOW! with 20 ripening fruit on the tree. This is completely out of season, is there a problem with this tree i.e. is it about to die, is it suffering the effects of the drought? Should this tree be pruned now or later in the winter? | About the Author Deborah Thomson Research 21st June 2007 3:43pm #UserID: 34 Posts: 1 View All Deborah Thomson's Edible Fruit Trees |
Holly says... Debra, I'm just taking an educated guess here, based on my childhood/teenage years on a fruit farm. I'd say it would be due to the drought, and the erratic weather patterns we have had. I wouldn't expect the tree to by dying if it is producing fruit. I'd let the fruit grow, and prune later in the winter. I think the trees tend to set thier own blossoming and fruit growing patterns and would let it go its merry way. | About the Author Holly Churchill 21st June 2007 4:49pm #UserID: 52 Posts: 1 View All Holly's Edible Fruit Trees |
