At a guess the tree probably needs a little more maturity before the fruit will stay on.

They normally hang onto fruit pretty well even when trees are small, that is until nearly ripe and in the absence of birds.Their leaves often drop in dry weather before the fruit do and in cooler places the trees are normally smaller. It could be a nutrition or sunlight thing.

Nick the fruit are like figs and have lots of tiny seeds and you only need a couple of fruit.I don't have easy access to a tree and they are not a popular tree these days with most I have seen being ferals around here.

Nick - If you dont have any luck in Sydney I could send you some seed. I'm not really sure how I would send them though! They are full of seed - probably near 1000 per fruit - which are tiny, like a raspberry or strawberry seed.

Hi Nick,
The emails I send you keep boucing back, with a note from your web tech server that the address couldnt be reached. Anyways, I can send another batch over. Will try a few different ways of preparing them. Would sending in a moist paper towel be okay for WA Quarrantine? I've found this PDF on germination (p.997) so perhaps having them in light at 35oC would help with germination? Stick a mini propogating box in part sun?

Hi Tri,

I suspect that they would be difficult to grow from seed, because they are not weedy despite the huge fruit output and the number they drop before you can pick them. Any individual seed would have a low chance, like a native fig.
Good luck.
