Donna starts with ... Hi All I have had a grafted black passionfruit (passiflora edulis?) in the ground for about 9 months. It hasn't flowered, which I am not expecting it to, but the leaves are slowing turning yellow and fallng off the vine. This has been happening slowly for about 6 weeks. It receives morning and midday sun but not the aternoon sun. New green shoots are coming through but as they start to grow bigger they too suffer the same fate. Treated pine logs have been used to construct the trelllis, could this be affecting the vine or is it one of those dreaded viruses. It receives plenty of water and I have tried decreasing that to see if that makes a difference but it doesn't appear to. I have fertilised it with banana special and blood and bone at various times. Finally there are a lot of little spiders growing on the vine - would they be affecting it. Please help me save my beautiful vine. | About the Author Minky2 Newcastle, NSW 12th September 2008 6:46pm #UserID: 1278 Posts: 9 View All Minky2's Edible Fruit Trees |
peter says... mine has done the same thing, i have mine in a pot. i dought the trelliss is causing the problem. by spiders do you meen the ones that have eight legs and eat insects, if so just leave them. if they are really small and you cant see any legs they might be spider mites which arent spiders at all but they still spin fine webs. if they are mites they can be hard to get rid of. i have tried many things to try and get rid of some that i have got. spin a fine web. | About the Author peter30001 adelaide 14th September 2008 10:12pm #UserID: 593 Posts: 293 View All peter30001's Edible Fruit Trees |

Kirst says... Donna...I have never had any luck with passionfruit...I have tried black, red and yellow grafted and they all end up dying. I know they are heavy feeders and I have heard that constraining their roots to some degree (eg keeping them in a pot like they recommend with figs and grapes to make them put more effort into fruiting rather than foliage and roots). Sorry I can't be more helpful but I am interested if you get any answers because I have a fence that would look so much better covered in a passionfruit vine. | About the Author Kirstie1 Dandenong Nth 15th September 2008 4:52pm #UserID: 1365 Posts: 4 View All Kirstie1's Edible Fruit Trees |
