Can some person please tell me when to pick my paw paws. They are starting to turn yellow, about a hand span of yellow. I don't want the parrots to get the fruit. Or can I cover the fruit until the time.

I would pick them soon because if they drop, they can split open and make a huge mess. I believe that some cultures cook with them when they are green.

We pick them once they get a hint of yellow and then leave them in the pantry to ripen wrapped loosely in some newspaper. A few days later they go fully yellow and it doesn't seem to affect the flavour at all. As a result we virtually never lose a pawpaw.
