Peacherine leaf problem

    10 responses

Sue starts with ...
I have a peacherine I planted 2 seasons ago, it is finally taking off. We had 2 or 3 very large fruit last year but I think dissapointingly they were a bit on the sour side.

I have 2 questions, can you do anything to make them sweeter? and I have also just noticed the new leaves this season seem to have sme kind of curl leaf? Is there an organic solution to this problem?

Hi Sue,
This web site will answer everything you need to know about peach leaf curl:

http://www.yates.com.au/problem-solver/problems/peach-leaf-curl/

Sour fruit? Did you pick them a little early? I leave mine on the tree till beginning to show signs of softening for maximum sugar content. Did you feed them with a good potassium included fertilizer for fruit?

Yes I probably did pick too early, the fruit were as big as oranges, just a couple, but still slightly firm. I think I was trying to race the birds. I also used just normal seasol that has some potassium but perhaps not enough!

Thanks for the link, I know feel an expert in curly leaf disease!! ;)

Thanks John, I purchaced the Leaf Curl Copper Fungicide Spray from Yates but I have a question I hope someone can answer. The instructions say to apply at budswell and for Shot hole at leaf fall.

What is 'shot hole' and could/should I apply it now as the leaves have just come out? They aren't all affected but I thought if it won't do any harm I may at least try a dose now, does anyone know if that would be a problem?

hi sue,
too late to spray now.
timeing is fairly important, must be sprayed at least once just before
budswell (just before flowers start to
come out).
i havent been spraying my trees which
get a bit of leaf curl and it hasnt really caused any problems.

Hi, I have the same problem with my peacharine tree - there area also has a lot of ants on the tree. and possibly some aphids (white ones) - hmm I sound like a bad garder but we have aphid and I think it is white fly on our broccoli too. Does anyone know if the leaf curl will mean that we shouldn't eat the fruit? I've been pulling off the worst leaves but perhaps I shoud just leave them?

When is the right time to pick white peach ermines? They are falling off the tree not squishy and some are firm but edible. They are also small and tart. They are a greenly yellow and some have a streak of blush. They pick off the tree very easily and the birds are having a feast. Thanks
