Pear Trees

What spray do you use on a pear tree to stop fruit from being rotten before it is ripe? We moved here 3 years ago and pears were okay, but for the last 2 years no pears could be salvaged. After a good prune last year, leaves on new shoots were crinkled and black spotted and tiny white insects were under many older leaves. We don't want to have to cut the tree down. Sorry, can't include a picture.

your problem sounds two fold. A you must rack up all the droped fruit and leaves for thats where this starts. Just as the flowers start to open you need to spray a copper oxide spay. A repeat tiwce 4 weeks apart. The white spider shouldnt come back. Late in the season all you could use is a confordor type leaphal spray. then you could not eat the pears for 4 weeks away. Use face masks and throught away overalls with these chemicals.

Sounds like either bitter pit or pear scab. Both cane be treated by sraying with a copper spray, at leaf fall, bud stage and then two weeks later. The insects are most likely woolly aphids, confidor will remove them, could also try contact spraying with pyrethrum or pest oil. Probably your humid wettish weather has made things worse. Tree should bounce back, try also some seasol or similar to give it a boost.

Thank you for your advice. Unfortunately, it's not humid or wet here but very dry (drought declared area). Under the leaves are miniscule white eggs and white insects fly around everywhere when disturbed. Have seen these on other trees out this way as well. All fruit and dropped leaves have been removed. We will try the copper spray, Confidor, etc. Much appreciate your help.
