Can I grow Pecan nuts in Central Victoria?. If so what are draw backs? I am only a home gardener. Do they take a lot of water?

You can grow pecan nuts in central Vic. The drawbacks are they are slowish growing and big. They also need reosonable amount of water. Protect young shoots of young trees if a late frost is expected. I have them growing here.

I have been growing Pecans for a few years now and have found if you give them lots water and food they will grow pretty fast. As for getting nuts I am still waiting. The variety I got is Pawnee which is supposed to be an early maturing variety which is inportant because they need longer summers than Vicgtoria has from what I have read to produce nuts.
Good luck Sean

I am enquiring if anyone has a cherokee pecan producing nuts and how long does it take to get nuts from what appears to be a seedling pecan tree. On the flyer that comes from the tree it says 5 or 6 years to produce nuts. I thought seedling pecan trees would take atleast 10 years to produce nuts.
