I was wondering what unusual trees or plants people have grown in perth, and any special tips they have about growing them that they have discovered ?
We live near central perth, in quite a windy spot. We have : edible -olives, calamansi, guava's, garlic chives, basil, coriander, mint. I am experimenting with trying some shiso.
Ornamental-gingko, roses, bromeliads, palms, chinese elms, ...
I was looking at the idea of trying some new or interesting plants. probably i am most interested in some new fruit or edible plants.... All our sunny parts of the garden are quite windy, so avocados and mago's will probably not be suitable..
eg carob ? pistachio's ? pandan ?

I have grown/am growing heaps of different vegetables (too many to list). I particularly like growing heirloom varieties.
Also heaps of fruit...I dont know if I can remember them all off the top of my head but I will try lol.
Smaller fruiting plants include:
blueberries (three varieties), strawberries (several varieties),
cape gooseberries,
pepinos,
midgim berries,
dwarf nana pomegranate
monstera
Citrus include:
lemondade tree,
Washington Navel dwarf (Flying Dragon),
Silverhill mandarin,
Red Centre lime,
Lots a Lemons (dwarf Meyer),
variegated Marumi cumquat,
Meiwa cumquat,
Nagami cumquat,
Tahitian Lime dwarf (Flying Dragon)
Other Fruit Trees:
white sapotes (Dade and Golden Globe),
grumichama black,
pomegranate (semi-dwarf Elcite),
papaya (paw paw) bi-sexual yellow,
tamarillo red and orange,
passionfruit (P.Gold & Sunshine Special)
peach dwarf (Trixzee),
Chillean guava,
strawberry/cherry guava (red and gold),
tropical guava (red & white fleshed),
apple dwarf (Golden Dorsett and Anna),
Ballerina crab apple (Maypole),
dwarf Pink Lady (Pinkabelle),
mulberries weeping and White Shahtoot,
jaboticaba,
acerola (Florida Sweet and unnamed),
loquat (Enormity),
lychee (Bosworth 3),
feijoa (Mammoth & another named var.),
Brazillian cherry,
Irish strawberry tree,
Various lillypillies,
Various palms with edible fruit
A lot of my fruiting plants and trees are in pots. I have had a mango and also an avocado but both died!!! They are the only fruit trees (apart from a Bolero Ballerina) that died on me. I did have these ones in pots, so maybe they were'nt free-draining enough or didnt get enough water...probably the latter, I suspect, with the heatwave we had in Perth last year.
Palms, eucalypts and lillypillies would all go good in a windy area, I think. I dont konw about the nut trees that youve asked about, maybe someone else will know. Good luck!
