Piper heberaceum is the native pepper vine ,or Tasmanian/Dorrigo pepper will grow fine . Tasmannia lanceolata Needs a male and female to produce pepper corns .
Otherwise you may be planting a noxious weed , the Gold Coast rivers and creeks are lined with invasive imported pepper trees , check the council and state government web site for noxious weeds.
I grow both the above and Tasmannia lanceolata leef is also a tasty pepper substitute. Both piper negrum (pepper vine) and Beatle leaf are ok . It's the tree that's a problem, heaps at dreamworld ,along the creek .

Hi Potty Bob 1: Thanks for your reply - it was very informative. I'll try to plant the Tasmanian pepper. :)

I just got a big bag of freshly picked Tasmanian Pepper Berries but don't know what to do with them. Besides drying them to make peppercorns for grinding, are there any other uses or recipes for the fresh berries that might make them more appealing? Thank you.

Great , you would be best with Tasmannia stipitata , known as Dorrigo Pepper , for berries you will need both a male and female, however the dried crushed leaves also taste like pepper.
The Tasmannia stipitata is a more local plant and will thrive on the Gold Coast ,that's what I have . If Daleys can't help , Burringbar rainforest nursery have it . Cheers
