hey i was wondering if anyone knows of some good fruit or nut plants to grow in melbourne? I want to have a small hedge kind of thing maybe 1-2 feet high for about 2m long then have another type of fruit tree or something in a pot at the end of it growing to about 6ft high in a pot maybe 1m in diameter .... Any suggestions with these constraints? The house has a cemented backyard so my hands are tied a bit

B & T World seeds has them listed fairly cheaply, and they are able to be imported to Australia if you follow the AQIS guidelines. They are only about 6 euros for a packet of several hundred seeds.

I've got a Feijoa hedge that works really well in Melbourne. I've got seven plants close together. They are nice and bushy and screen an ugly shed.

hey evo that looks awesome, im planning on doing a little 1-2ft hedge of lingon berry and bilberry in planter boxes in the backyard and need a 3-4ft hedge for the front yard along the picket type fence, from that pic the feijoa looks perfect. How big were they when you bought them or is that the 3rd season from seed?

Hi Benny,

They are heading into season three - so two really. They were about 6-10 inches high and very lean. I felt bad planting them so far apart, but they grow pretty quickly and fill out very nicely. I have tip pinched them each season to encourage bushy growth..I'm going for fruit this year, so fingers' crossed.

I like your idea too. You've now got me looking into lingon berry and bilberry for the other side!
