Hi all,

I have an European plum and today I got two European plum cuttings from a friend. I would like to do grafting or budding onto my plum tree.
My questions are
- if grafting then when should I do it?
- if budding then when should I do it?
- should I save the cuttings in the fridge?
Which one is the best method?

Many thanks in advance.

Anna.

Keep your cuttings in the vegetable crisper section of the fridge, wrapped in damp newspaper and in a plastic bag (on the outside) to keep them cold but stop them drying out. They need to be still dormant when you graft. When you see the buds swelling on the tree you wish to graft, that means the sap is starting to flow and is an ideal time to graft your dormant scions on to it. Budding is really a summer job when the plant is in mid growth cycle.
