pollination

I've noticed that Daleys have changed their information about the pollination of certain trees.

Black sapote, for example, was listed as not needing pollination, but this was later changed to "yes".

I have heard that seedling Black Sapotes need a pollinator (any other seedling), but that grafted ones do not.

The same applys to Persimmons.

Yet some experts (including Daleys) say that Carambola needs a pollinator, whereas mine bears well without one.

Other trees eg Abiu are listed as "Partial" pollinator. Does this mean that the tree bears on its own, but bears better with a pollinator?

What if your garden is not big enough for 2 trees of each kind?

When the pollination is listed as partial, this means that one tree will produce fruit on it own, however it will produce a lot more fruit if it is cross pollinated with another tree. It does also mean that sometimes they may not accept their own pollen in which case they will not set fruit and will need another tree near them, this can happen occasionally with black sapotes. Carambolas we list pollination as beneficial, this means that one tree will produce more fruit if it has another near it but it is not essential and a tree on its own will crop.
