Problem fruit trees

    2 responses

Janiss starts with ...
Avocado has masses of flowers and small fruit appearing. Happened also last year but fruit fell off. Fertilised till flowers appeared and have only watered since fruit appeared.
Yellow paw paw loss of leaves new ones have black specks.
Red paw paw cut back last year after fruiting. Bi sexual. Now grown too tall and only flowers so far.
Any ideas. All fruit fertilised regularly and also trace elements.

Janiss the avocado is one fruit that we do have success with. My resource tells me that it is undesirable to apply fertilizer shortly before and during the flowering and early fruit set period up to about golf-ball size as it is known to cause fruit drop. Locals say that a huge crop predicts cyclones and was not that the case with Cyclone Larry!

Since lodging the query we have had large numbers of avocados which had one small set back with a black fungus on stalks. This was sorted out. We have had a few fall but not the very bigs ones thank goodness.
Colin Campbell on a radio program suggested that the use of potash once the fruit has set to maintain this state. So fingers crossed four months to go.
Thank you Roselea for your help with this query. regards Jan
