when can i harvest my pumpkin? i have two which look like they are mature, however, the plant is still going strong and has several smaller pumpkins attached to it which will not be ready to harvest for quite a while. in the past, i have always waited until the plant has totally exhausted itself and died before harvesting. what does everyone think?

Lynn, When the weather gets colder the vine will start to yellow and wither. When the vine is gone you can walk in and collect them. Sometimes, if there is a lot of moisture on the ground during the ripening, your pumpkins can start to rot but usually you're OK to wait. We used to train our pumpkins onto the roof of a shed and then eventually you'd notice the pumpkins sitting up there when the vine was gone and then you'd collect them. The slight fall of the roof meant there were no moisture and fungal issues.
