Has anyone out there had good results from growing the Ranier Cherry in Florida? Also interested in Cherry of the Rio Grande. We have a wonderful Russell Avocado tree that really produces. Elsie

We are an australian site but our part of the world is quite similar to florida here in Northern NSW, Australia.

The Cherry of the Rio Grande has beautiful white flowers that cover the tree when I saw it last but I have never tasted the fruit. I have tried the Acerola Cherry and thought that it was incredibly strong taste but perhaps not as good as a normal cold weather cherry.

I have a brazillian cherry tree that flowers with sweet smelling white and pink flowers and the fruit is so sweet it almost gives a sugar headache if you eat to much off the tree. You could try this, as they are available from most good nurseries, if you have no luck with the rio grande or ranier.

The Ranier, like all true cherries, is a fruit of the northern temperate zones. Chill time, over 250 hours for low chil varieties, is the norm for these trees to set fruit--a ranier I'd imagine needs over 400-500 hours of belo 50 degree weather.
