Replant my avocado tree? (forum)

LP starts with ...
I got an avocado tree 6 months ago as a wedding present. Best present ever! It was in a pot, and about 60-80cm tall. After watching this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W_Vx86SCX4w&spfreload=10 I realised I've planted the tree all wrong! I didn't do anything to help the soil drainage, and I've often over-watered (3 mins hand watering per day), which I fear may have caused the roots to go deep and not shallow. But, 4 months after planting, the tree looks really healthy....

So, should I (a) make some simple changes - add some gypsum and organic matter, and give it less water daily, or (b) do I consider replanting with this abundance of new knowledge...?

Hi LP - put up some pics of your planting? What Variety?
Did you have a raised bed for Avo? And what is your soil at a spade depth? Clay? or other?
Remember Avos LOVE water in summer and virtually none in winter or root rot will occur.
This even happens in QLD after 3 to 4 rainy days - just in case get some Yates or other Anti Rot as preventative.
Growing an Avo next to other big trees can help as ive done as they take up excess water fast :)

Here's a pic, but I'm still waiting to hear back from my friend as to what variety it is. I'll track down some anti-rot, and I'm currently giving it a short water everyday. Over the past few days I mounted the top soil slightly to help with drainage, and added some lucerne mulch. I also got my worm farm going this week so I've been feeding it diluted worm tea. The soil is fairly sandy, so any water seems to drain relatively quickly. We've got a decent sized yard that was a blank canvas when we bought the place 9 months ago. This avo tree is one of the few trees we've planted, and although we'll be adding others soon, ideally I want to give him plenty of space.
Any other recommendations?

Hi LP - your back - good to see your situation - looks good but Avos can be quite fickle - when they are growing correctly they are like fast vegies and sometime they just sit and think a while while they put down roots then they go zoom.
Look at this website http://www.avopro.org/
and serch and watch the Growquest videos on youtube as they are the best advice for beginners - dont forget a sprinkle of gypsum around dripline every 6 months :)
