soggy lemons (forum)

I have a 5 year old Meyer lemon tree growing in a pot. It provides us with fruit which has a strong taste of orange (it is rather lovely). However the last two seasons it has provided us with soggy spongy lemons. What have I done? I am about to plant it out in the garden. I know they need good sun (will get full sun all day) and well drained soil. Are there any other things I need to provide?
Thanks, Mags

Hi Mags,
We've had exactly the same experience with a Meyer Lemon. When ours became root-bound in its pot a couple years ago, the Lemons got squishy. Once we moved it out into the ground (our soils are sandy with good drainage), it got happy again. We water it only in Winter (our dry season) and give it fish emulsion every three months, and that seems a good remedy.

Thanks for the information Tom. That sounds like what might be happening to my lemon tree too. It's been in its pot for a bit too long I guess. I am planning to plant it out quite soon so hopefully that will fix things for me.
