Sourcing Chilean bellflowers (forum)

Hi all I am after some white Chilean bellflowers, botanical name Lapergia rosea, o one seems to have them, any ideas?

I have previously purchased both pink and white flowering varieties of Lapageria rosea from Gilbert Ceroni in Narre Warren. He is a real expert on these plants and has some videos about growing them on youtube.

They are a bit tricky to grow as they don't like strong sun and are best grown under shade cloth. Besides the spectacular flowers they produce a delicious fruit which is much loved in Chile!

Stephen Ryan at Dicksonia Rare Plants in Mt Macedon stocks them, they are fairly pricey tho. Easy to grow from seed if you can get some online but colour can be variable. Be wary of the seeds offered for sale from China, they are usually substitutes and you're most likely to be disappointed. Worth paying for a selected cultivar to ensure you get the white that you are after.

I also purchased two from Gilberto Ceroni in Nov 2017. Unfortunately one plant didnt make it but the other is now about to flower. I planted it in a large pot following Gilberto's instructions under my pergola with a climbing frame attached to the wall. So basically after 1 year and 4 months Pink flowers are starting to emerge. I didnt know before hand the colour so it was a nice surprise. At the moment there are 4 flowers which are nearly in bloom and 4 buds that are a good size and looking healthy. Here are some pics. Thanks again to Gilberto for all his advice.
