"Stumping" a very tall macadamia for regrowth (forum)

Hi all, I have an older Macadamia in my side garden. It has LOTS of nuts but I never get them as it's so tall I can never reach them. It's about 30 foot tall plus and the bottom branches are at least 10 foot tall.

I'd like to stump the tree, cut it back to about 4 foot and have it regrow so that I can train it to be shorter and wider.

I read this article on avacado trees http://mimiavocado.com/2012/04/why-we-cut-the-trees-down-avocado-trees-can-regrow/) and I wonder if Macadamia can have the same success?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I love the shade it provides but I'm happy to start again if I have to as I currently get barely any results (nuts) from this tree.

Rob

Can you put up a photo of the tree? Being a Native it could be cut back by half - dont think I would stump? Your link didnt work either - would like to see as I grow Avos - Cheers

Had a very tall old macadamia tree at my parents house, we cut it down to 1.5m.
Some time after it started pushing out shoots, grew well after that.

Thanks Ive - nice pics of the stumped Avos at the "Ranch" and their regrowth - they got very tall and leggy - love to have that many fruit in a small area in one of the Pics - oneday?

I thought macca farmers rely on nuts to drop on ground to harvest? :)

That's all I know to do, I have two myself , been picking up nuts everyday for the last few weeks.
Found it odd myself, they either fall whole (green) or opened with nut falling out.
