sugar apple young leave wither (forum)

My two sugar apple plants seem to look fine. Mature leaves are green.
But the young leaves are often wither (turn black).
I have them for about a month now and still keep them in small pots (15L). I *deep* water them once a week (Sydney-based) and have a lot of mulch for them. This is doing well for other plants but not for the sugar apples. What have I done wrong?

I'd say they are struggling in that sized pot and well as the watering needs to be stepped up, especially over the hotter summer months. Check below the mulch to see how damp the soil is every few days
