Hi Adam.

I grow Tamarillos in Canberra. But due to the heavy frosts here, I propogate new plants each year in pots and protect them under north facing eaves each winter for planting in open soil in their second year. They fruit prolifically and then die. The new plants are easily propogated from new shoots on fruiting trees and then planted in pots to establish their roots and size and then move them as needed when the frosts hit.
