Thorny Cara Cara orange tree

My Cara Cara orange tree has been in the ground for around 2 years, it flowered last year but didn’t set fruit. I’ve noticed it’s got lots of thorns, is that normal for Cara Cara orange trees? I thought Cara caras were thornless?

Hi Rebecca

I also have a 2 years old cara cara orange loaded with fruits with thorns. I just snip the thorns off. Cara cara orange is a sport of navel orange which has thorns as well. It inherited the pricks from its parent.
Happy gardening 😎
