I have some walking stick palm seeds and was wondering how the best way was to germinate the seed, how long they'll take to germinate etc.

Plant them as you would any other palm seeds, clean the seed of it flesh and plant in seed raising mix. The seeds are reliable but slow, taking up to 12 months to germinate. Growth is also very slow, my 5 year old plants are approx 20 cm tall. Rich organic matter, shade and plenty of water are essential for healthy plants. The flesh of the fruit is edible and is a great little sweet snack when out in the forest.

I bought some of these about 12 months ago and found them in the shed after I built a little hothouse. Potted 24 seeda and now every plant has germinated and are over 20 cm tall after 8 weeks. Go figure?
