I am really interested on feedback on the following fruits for their taste please.
I would like to grow them for our local farmers market and would very much appreciate any comments - (the good, the bad and the ugly!) b4 i invest time and energy in them:
AMBARELLA (Spondias cytherea)
BRAZILIAN CHERRY (Pitanga, Eugenia uniflora)
CHERRY OF RIO GRANDE (Eugenia aggregata)
GRUMICHAMA (Eugenia dombeyi)
KEI APPLE (Dovyalis caffia)
KWAI MUK (Artocarpus hypargyraeus)
RED MOMBIN (Spondias purpurea)
SEA GRAPE grape (Coccoloba uvifera)
WAMPEE (Clausena lansium)
I already have the usual tasty suspects (cherry guavas, jaboticabas etc) but I am looking for others - particularly the addictive sort as I don't want to go back to my day job.....

Hi Amanda,
I haven't personally tasted any of these, but Neville Passmore and Louis Glowinski both didn't like the Pitanga (), although Randey has it growing in East Cannington, and says he and his family like it... so who knows? :-) ...sounds like it's a matter of personal preference!
Cheers,
Liz

Hi Amanda, The Wampee has an unusual but very pleasant flavour. My Brazilian cherry was quite nice but could be variable from seedling to seedling.

Wampee is really delicious. It is a relative of citrus and has the appearance of pale citrus fruit and thin citrus rind, but is not at all acid, it tastes a bit creamy like sweet custard to me.
Grummichama is a bit like jaboticaba but more acid, from memory (I wouldn't go out of my way for it).
Good luck
