Everyone here will have different ideas of choice depending on needs and tastes, you can grow all in the Western Suburbs but depending on soil type some will do better than others.Take a walk in your neighbourhood and ask type if you see any prolific tree you like the look of,gardeners love to talk plants as you can see by this forum. Depends on what use you want the fruit for? For bottling? Fresh fruit, Jams and preserves, sauces?
Satsuma Blood Plum is a good all round mid to late plum with Santa Rosa a second choice and good pollinator. For peaches for eating there are no wrong choices but for bottling you need a yellow cling peach like Golden Queen. Apples too depend on use and time of year you want your crop. Granny Smith is a good cooker with a lot (like me) liking them for eating too. But as there are hundreds of Apple choices not one that is easy for someone who doesn't know your tastes or needs to help with. Grapes for eating or wine? Same thing for choices, but do make sure you have a good strong frame for it to climb on in plenty of sun. Happy gardening.

thank you alot for helping out.
I mostly prefer eating fresh fruit than using for jam etc. My family like mostly sweet variety of apples like fiji, royal gala etc but not sure good of Melbourne weather or not. Also self pollinating would great as dont have big backyard. Different fruiting seasons would great I guess to have fresh fruits to eat round the year.
Once again really appreciate you taking time helping new gardeners.

You could look at multi graft apples and also Ballerina types for small spaces. All eating apples will do ok in Melbourne area (some better than others depending on soil- but all will grow and fruit for you)but you will need to control Codling Moth from the start.

I suggest going to the Weribbee Heritage grafting day (Google that)in June and get them to graft you a 3 way apple on dwarf rootstock so you have an early mid and late varieties - after 4th year i have more apples i can eat on my own multi graft of Gala Sundowner five crowns and Snow on a Golden Delicious main tree. I thinned at least 50 apples mid summer and fruit are delicious. Just had a super juice crisp Gala - YUM. the Goldies are amazing sweet & juicy too and cant buy in shops anymore - maybe Tassie only now.
