Slightly more sour than its relative the blackcurrant, and is cultivated mainly for jams and cooked dishes. Currants require a cold winter and can be grown in areas that may be too wet and shady for other fruit.

This is a tart fruit, but quite tasty. Used to eat them as a kid in Europe.
