Loquat - Nagasakiwase

The best Japanese variety so far, it has deep orange flesh, high flesh/seed ratio and very sweet flavour. Earliest variety to ripen. Thinning fruit will enhance fruit size. The Nagasakiwase often has 2 crops a year in the subtropics. The first crop in April / May then again in August. We have found by cincturing in summer, the August crop has a much larger crop and better fruit size.

Feijoa - Apollo

Medium to large, oval fruit. Flavour sweet and very pleasant, quality excellent. Ripens mid to late-season. The tree is upright, spreading, tall, vigorous and productive. Fruits are soft and need to be handled with care. Feijoa is also referred to as pineapple guava, which are very ornamental with attractive red, edible flowers in spring.

Olive - Kalamata

Their fruit is juicy and sweet and have a unique torpedo shape and split in the skin. The most popular olive in Australia, they are ideal for use in cooking or as an olive to eat alone. Available seasonally as a grafted product as well as a cutting grown plant. Prefers cool winters and hot, dry summers. Suggested cross-pollinators are Frantoio and Koroneiki.

This variety was discovered in Venezuela in 1976. It is smaller than many other navel selections but has pink flesh similar to Star Ruby grapefruit. In South Africa it matures slightly earlier than Washington navel. Although Cara Cara has yet to be evaluated fully under Australian conditions there is considerable interest in it locally. The dwarf rootstock, flying dragon modifies the top growth making this a dwarf plant that is ideal to use planted out or as a pot specimen.

A smooth, brilliant yellow fruit with sweet translucent flesh. It has delicious flavour reminiscent of creme caramel and a texture that is extremely smooth and luscious. The fruit is considered a delicacy for those who can grow it successfully, and it thrives in warm subtropical and tropical conditions.It is native to South America and can be found growing wild throughout much of Amazonia. In Brazil the pulp from the plant is used medicinally, to relieve coughs and bronchitis. Of course, most people love the fruit's flavour, which is enhanced when eaten slightly chilled. Cut in half and scoop out the flesh with a spoon and enjoy. It can be used to flavour ice cream and make other desserts.

Tagasaste - Tree lucerne

I have dry sandy soil that repels water, hot dry summers and low rainfall. Light frosts in winter. My lucerne trees have flourished and have done a brilliant job as nurse trees, surrounding more sensitive plants until they get established.
