Description: An evergreen, small to medium tree with a spreading crown and a smooth, grey trunk. In early summer this attractive tree bears masses of showy, light pink to dark mauve flowers above the large, glossy, oval leaves.

Position and Care: Prefers a sunny, open position in rich, moist, well drained soil. Tolerates frost and some coastal exposure when established, but protect from frost when young. Apply mulch in spring to keep roots cool and moist. Keep moist in dry weather, but drier at other times. Tolerates pruning if necessary.

Use: A slow growing, attractive tree for parks, avenues and large gardens. Ideal for containers.
