Fast growing, woody herb to 7m. Produces delicious fruit in Summer from a young age. Harvest when skin is yellow-green and ripen indoors. Cross pollination is required. (see reverse)

To ensure successful pollination there should not be more than 10 female trees to one male.

It is not possible to determine the male and female trees until they flower, at which time unwanted trees can be killed by Papaw To ensure successful pollination there should be no more than 10 femalecutting them off at ground level. For this reason put In 3 or 4 separate plants which will mostly result in at least one male and one female tree. The final spacing between established trees should be 1.5m.

Male plants bear flowers in large numbers on pendulous branches up to 1 m in length. Female plants have large flowers borne Singly or in small clusters in the leaf axils.

CONDITIONS: Require a very warm, sheltered position with free-draining, slightly acid soil. Avoid frost and cold, wet soils.

FOR BEST RESULTS: Keep the root area free of weeds but do not cultivate too deeply as Papaws have many roots close to the surface. Apply an organic mulch to keep weeds down and conserve moisture. Feed regularly. Water the trees frequently and deeply during the Summer months.
