Star Apple
A close relative of the Abiu, this spectacular ornamental tree has large green leaves with a vibrant golden underside. The round purple fruits display a beautiful central star design when sliced open. The semi-translucent flesh is soft, sweet and juicy. It has a wonderful caramel vanilla milkshake flavour.
Sometimes known as Caimito is native to the West Indies where it is a very popular fruit. Fruit can be purple or green skinned. When cut in half there is an attractive star pattern. The flesh is sweet and tastes very smooth and aromatic. A very attractive tropical tree, leaves green above and gold underneath.
This purple fruiting selection was made in Florida in 1952. A heavy yielding tree with well-formed and very high quality fruit. Highly ornamental tree with its attractive brownish underside leaves.

The timber is very brittle and branches tend to break off easily. Fruit is very hard to pick from a mature tree - it's a long, long way up!!! Foliage is pretty and when you see more brown than green, you know the tree is thirsty. | John Plummer - Darwin, NT 11-Sep-2008
