A living fossil tree from southern Morocco, Western Algeria, Western Sahara and Northern Mauritania where the Argan tree dates back 80 million years. It grows into a small, thorny tree to about 10m tall that can live for 200 years. The olive like fruits are traditionally used to make a gourmet oil with a walnut-like flavour. Robust, drought tolerant and ornamental, well suited to dry tropical regions.
