Custard Apple - Geffner

Geffner is an Israeli cultivar with a moderate to heavy cropping capacity. The flavour is exceptionally good and although it performs well it's not superior to the African Pride. However it is known to be self pollinating and sets fruit every year. A very reliable tree that does not need much maintenance for home gardens.

The fermented pod of this climbing orchid is harvested from the Vanilla Vine or orchid, an aromatic sweet scents used to flavour cakes, and perfumes. Must be hand pollinated. The only insect capable of pollinating the blossom is the Melipona, a bee (see video) , native only to Mexico so all plants must be hand pollinated within 12 hours of the flower opening. The pods take nine month to develop.

A graceful, tropical palm also commonly called Areca nut, this is not a true nut but a palm seed. Its use carries dangers, however, see Warning below.
