Loquat - Nagasakiwase

The best Japanese variety so far, it has deep orange flesh, high flesh/seed ratio and very sweet flavour. Earliest variety to ripen. Thinning fruit will enhance fruit size. The Nagasakiwase often has 2 crops a year in the subtropics. The first crop in April / May then again in August. We have found by cincturing in summer, the August crop has a much larger crop and better fruit size.

This small orange fruit can be used to make a delicious juice considered a delicacy in South America. This small spreading herbaceous shrub is very attractive with large leaves that have a purple velvet effect. Although some plants can have thorns on the leaves and stems. The small orange fruit have a translucent yellow / green flesh with a delicious, juicy, slightly acid, pineapple / lemon cross flavour.
