A hardy, compact tree growing to 2 metres at full maturity. Often called the Super Dwarf Valley Red. Long thin leaves are glossy and dark green. A beautiful display of rose-pink flowers are produced in spring. A moderate crop of freestone fruit is produced mid-late season. Size and shape is medium and round to oblong. Skin colour is orange-yellow with a deep red blush. Flesh is golden when ripe and the eating quality is very good, with a melting sweet flavour. High Chill, not suited to Warm climates

Flavour is highly aromatic and has been rated as superior by Chefs. Fruit is highly ornamental, with its shiny black skin and as a cut fruit, as it has a dark lime green pulp. Displays well as a garnish, with the juice vesicles popping out on cutting and the fruit splitting open wide. Its wide shape facilitates scooping out the pulp with a teaspoon. Rind colour is black/purple at optimum maturity and pulp colour is a dark yellow/green. Mean fruit size is 50mm x 25mm. It is a mid to late season variety but bears fruit all year round.

Fuyu is a semi-dwarf variety, well suited to growing in small backyards and can be kept to 2m with pruning. The fruit is large and flat, orange-red in colour with a sweet, mild flavour. Great eaten crunchy but just luscious when left to go soft. Besides producing delicious fruit, Persimmons are highly ornamental with their beautiful autumn foliage. Non astringent, so can be eaten when still hard. When young, protect from hot afternoon sun, and when dormant, from wet conditions. Seedless when grown on their own. If cross pollinating with another variety they can have seeds in the flesh as shown in the display picture.
