Hi Saskia
How large is the bare root tree at the moment especially the spread of the root system? And what kind of tree are you talking about?
Happy gardening :-)

I haven't received the trees from Daley's yet, they call it a large size bare root tree. The trees I have ordered are a full size Japanese Maple
drawf apricot
drawf peach
full size Chinese quince

Hi Saskia
You can start with 25 ltr bag and progress from there every 2 to 3 years or if their growth is quite rapid upgrade the grow bag. They can easily outgrow smaller bags in one season. I started my bare root dwarf peach last year in a 25 ltr bag and it looks fantastic atm.
Happy gardening :-)

Hi Chelsea
You may need to water a little bit more compared to conventional pots because the fabric is porous allowing quicker H2O evaporation. Just monitor the moisture content of your air pruning bags regularly or better still install a drip irrigation system and rig it to the required amount of water including the frequency of irrigation to take out the frequent guess work and spend more time with other important things.
Happy gardening :-)
