Linton starts with ... I wanna talk about Jojoba nuts, Simmondsia chinensis, in a time when we are facing critical food shortages and escalating prices for basic commodities. So I thought that Jojoba nuts might be another food plant that could be grown at home to supplement our needs. The thing is, there seems to conflicting reports on the internet as to the edibility of these nuts. Some sources cite these nuts as being edible tasting somewhat like Hazelnuts, while other sources state that they are toxic and can cause heart damage if eaten. Please tell me this isnt true because if it is, I won't bother to grow this plant. Thank you and have a nice day | About the Author Linton NOBLE PARK,3174,VIC 15th September 2020 9:10am #UserID: 2286 Posts: 994 View All Linton's Edible Fruit Trees |
jakfruit etiquette says... The Jojoba is native to the South West USA and Baja CA. It is eaten by some Peoples in the area, other Tribes dont eat it. It has many medicinal healing and cultural uses. The refined oil might have more effects than nuts, so be sure warnings are for nuts not oil. Are you growing it now ?? It might be worth keeping it for the medicinal value. If not, for pure food value, you might be better with peas, peanuts or beans instead of nut trees. Some dry bean or pea vars can be very productive even in small spaces, and you can grow unique types. | About the Author jakfruit etiquette gotham city,3000,Vic 17th September 2020 9:47am #UserID: 5133 Posts: 915 View All jakfruit etiquette's Edible Fruit Trees |

Linton says... I am not currently growing a Jojoba tree and even though some sellers of this plant claim it produces edible nuts I don't think I am prepared to take the risk. Thanks for the other suggestions but I can't grow peas or beans in my conditions. I didnt think that peanuts could be grown in Melbourne. Is anyone growing them successfully here? Please advise, thank you. | About the Author Linton NOBLE PARK,3174,VIC 18th September 2020 10:04am #UserID: 2286 Posts: 994 View All Linton's Edible Fruit Trees |
