For the second year now my Banana tree is dying off and the fruit is only about half size. Can I save it 'til the fruit is ready?

Banana like loam soil in warm climates.if the base of the plant is healthy or no desease, sprout will develop at desirable weather or temp..If your location is in temperate zone I think you need a glass transparent that can increase temp. Inside the green house or plant other shrub that will protect banana from chill the styrofoam I think is good enough to create warm air since it is very good insulator.I know clay loam soil is enough to protect banana roots during winter season.

Thanks for the information. Here I have alkaline sand but the Banana was growing fantastic and has two side shoots. Of course it is fed and mulched to improve the soil. It is planted in the corner of a fence for protection and as we live near an estuary our temperature rarely falls below 13C
It now has one leaf left and an enormous bunch of Bananas!
