Hi Peetah
Ants can sometimes indicate scale as they drink the sweet 'nectar' secreted by these insects. A good spray with white oil should clear up the scale. If they are only on the new fresh tips then maybe check for aphids ! BTW my young blood orange has fresh growth happening right now so I would say yours is normal. The ants should leave once the food supply is gone !

Hi Peetah,
I have used Eco oil successfully. The instructions say to spray until the tree is dripping. It would get rid of scale. Maybe direct most of the spray towards the more affected areas of the tree. I think the tree should be 'covered' with the Eco oil.
Hope this helps : o )

Eco oil can also be mixed with Pyrethrum for some extra punch - as scale can be a bit waxy n resistant (as per pyrethrum dilution instructions) - great for scale and leaf miner too - really does the job and eco friendly too.
