Can this pear tree survive and grow (forum)

This is a pear tree of only 2 -3 feet and does not have its main branch when it came. I thought it was dead but now it has leaves sprout out at the bottom of the tree. The branch still seems dead. I wonder if it will survive and what I can do with it? Should I cut that branch. Will it grow without main branch?
Thanks!

Hey Joanne,
Before I do anything, I'd try and scratch the main branch towards the tip first to see if there is any green wood beneath the bark. If so you have nothing to worry about, it's still alive but dormant.
