Apparently they are next to impossible to grow from seed, so I haven't tried...

Hi Neyesea, like many plants it has a complicated germination requirement. I think dried seed goes into a dormancy. The info from Eden says.
To germinate freeze seed in sand for 2 weeks, germination is slow with low results. Sow spring.
I have grown some of the native Capers from fresh seed.
