Carolina Black Rose Young Leaves Crinkling.

    5 responses

I also have a grape question. I bought this carolina black rose vine from daleys and planted in front of my patio. It gets lots of sunlight and soil is considered crumbly. It has two growing tips..one going upwards on the trellis, the other sideway for the moment.

pH tested yesterday was 8 to 8.5.

It was growing quite well producing new leaves and tendrils. Just recently i noticed some of the younger leaves looking crinkled and I dont know if this is a problem of some sort.

Would appreciate if anyone can advise/comment.

Thanks! :)

Hi Au0rey, Interesting photo's. Have you sprayed any kind of herbicide or pesticide near the vine at all?
The only other thing I can think of is a viral infection :-(
It is worth just gently digging down to the roots and checking that they are healthy and that there is no sign of nematode infection also.
Good luck!

Hi au0rey,
Nematodes cause 'bubbles' on the roots. They look thick and distored.
If you put in 'root knot nematodes' on Wiki they have a picture of what they look like.

I think one way of keeping them at bay is to plant Marigolds. Others may have better ideas....

Good Luck

Hi Amanda, Audrey and Jodie,

Molasses mixed with warm water and poured onto soil works to control nematodes quickly. (see http://www.abc.net.au/gardening/stories/s2607562.htm for the concentration).

Could your leaf distortion be a nutritional deficiency? There are a lot of grape vine disease and deficiency diagnosis sites run by various agriculture departments around the world on the web.

Diana.
