Intut1 starts with ...
We have heavily fruited Cherimoya Tree, could someone tell us when can we harvest our tree?? Cherimoya is not a common fruit tree here in New Zealand. Our tree is small and lush green. We hand polinated our tree, start in end of December thru end of January. Winter start in 1st of May to end of August.

Rather than give a particular month, they ripen at the end of winter. It varies according to the years weather, microclimate and district. When they are ready to pick you tilt the fruit and it will come off. Sometimes they will pick when quite hard but will still usually ripen well. You will soon get used to it. I used a mix of ground charcoal and wood ash around a tree and had heavy crops and a very vigorous tree.

Cherimoya fruits harvest when they are still hard but fruit turns from a pale green to creamy/lighten yellow in colour as they reach maturity. The fruit softens in a few days or week depends on the ambient temperature after picking. You can pick one fruit to check at the time. I was wondering can you load up your tree photos and do you know name of your Cherimoya tree and what is day time temperature. Cheers

Hi Intut

You can harvest your cherimoya when they turn pale yellow green, & are slightly soft to the touch. Flavor can be improved if fruit is harvested slightly unripe, then left to ripen at room temperature indoors (in bright indirect light).
