Citrus tree borer?

    6 responses

Hello.
My Navelina orange is 4 y.o. and I found few holes in the trunk. I think my tree is affected by some kind of borer.
Using a piece of wire, I killed one grub but can't identify it.
Could somebody help me, please?
The grub was app. 1 cm long.
I used kerosene and candle paraffin to close the holes.

Hi Olga I had the same problem with a lemon tree, it's a battle and I tried things but it is hard to get anything in the holes except wire. Mine picked up in winter the when summer hit it looked terrible so we decided to pull it out and plant a new one in another spot. I was told the borers come in when the tree is under stress and we have had very dry hot summers here in Perth so it is hard to keep enough water up to them.
Good luck.

Another option maybe is to cut the diseased branch off as long as it is well above the graft/bud union with the rootstock. The new branches coming might be healthy...

Thank you Peter
I was thinking about that but I am afraid both the rootstock and the scion are infected.

Well done Olga, using a piece of wire is recommended. Then spray with Rogor or something similar once a week for a few weeks
