janelle starts with ... I have just about had enough of trying to grow angel peach trees. I have 2 in big pots for over 2 years. I get small fruit and then they drop off. I have now found blobs of jelly coming out of the branches and again the fruit are gone. No I bought the trees for Brisbane climate and was assured that they will grow here. Well they aren't. So is this a case of "not fit for the purpose in which they were bought"? Any suggestions? | About the Author janelle brisbane 5th December 2010 11:45am #UserID: 2384 Posts: 5 View All janelle 's Edible Fruit Trees |
snottiegobble says... Janelle, your trees have gummosis which is a fungal infection. They can be treated with copper based fungicide, but after losing a mature apricot & almond to gumnosis inspite of frequent spraying & surgery I believe it is better to pull out any prunus affected & replace with a non-prunus fruit tree. When the trees are badly affected even the kernels will oose resin & spoil the flesh of the fruit. Maybe thats why your fruit are dropping early! | About the Author snottiegobble Bunbury/Busso (smack in the middle) 5th December 2010 2:51pm #UserID: 3468 Posts: 1458 View All snottiegobble's Edible Fruit Trees |

kert says... Gummosis is a symptom not a diagnosis . It can occur from water stress ,insect attack ,heat stress. It can also occur with a disease called bacterial canker which as the name suggests is bacterial not "fungal" The bacteria involved are Pseudomonas and they do repond to a limited extent with copper sprays. | About the Author sydney 6th December 2010 9:52am #UserID: 0 Posts: View All 's Edible Fruit Trees |
