Eating immature macadamia (forum)

Hi guys,
Just wondered if it's safe to eat them, as there are a lot of immature windfalls at the moment from maca street trees (Sydney).
The windfalls are quite soft, easy to open. Some varieties taste ok, a bit like young coconut; others taste bitter. But I thought I'd ask around in case they're toxic. So far I just tasted them without swallowing.

Some lesser known varieties of Macs are toxic. They need to be processed first to make them edible. Be sure that the ones you're talking about are the well known commercial varieties before consuming them.

Yes I had read that there were some toxic varieties - hopefully not planted as city street trees, but I'll be careful, just in case....
