Frost Hardy Avo's

Hi, I'm looking for some frost hardy avocado trees for the Esk area of Qld. We can get quite severe frosts here, but I know they will grow here as my neighbour has 2 different trees loade with fruit. Pity he can't remember what they are!

I'd appreciate some info about frost hardy cultivars and /or growing tips.

Cheers,

John

Lots of questions here John, are your neighbours trees grafted or seedlings? If they're seedlings go pinch some, if they're grafted they would probably be hass or shephard. Your call here, one sort of avo. would probably be not much more frost resistant than another [I think].

Take over a six pack and pick his brains

Hi John, best avocados for cold areas are, Bacon, Fuerte & Pinkerton. I'd plant a Hass too and plant only grafted trees. Plant them on a mound of sandy loam infused with Gypsum & composted cow manure, for best results.
