Grafted Mandarin

Graham Ball starts with ...
The rootstock of my grafted mandarin appears to be taking over the entire tree with thorny lush shoots growing all over the tree. Last seasons crop was also very sour. Is there a solution??

Cut off everything that has grown from below the graft and then reassess what you have left.
