Green Sapote (forum)

Michael starts with ...
Hello All,
I am currently deciding to put into the ground my green sapote. Since I have never tried this fruit but only read about it on the net I would like to get feedback from someone actually growing it and managing to get it to fruit . I don't like to waste a good sunny spot in my garden . I curently have in the ground wampee,lychee,mango,star fruit,dragon fruit,pomello,amberalla and lime . The green sapote would be the last tree to be in the ground and my backyard would be complete for now.

I have a few seedlings grown from a mates tree , growing just down the road . Not a massive tree and does not seem to give lots of fruit , but very nice tasting . Muchbetter imho than the related Mamey and supposedly more cold tolerant so if you are not in the tropics worth planting .

Hey Michael ... we have a 10 year old seedling green sapote growing at our community garden. Slow growing as it is only 3m tall although is has been is 70% shade most of its life. Flowered for the first time last year but know fruit.

Ive tried the fruit when i was up north and really like it. Its like a sweet pumpkin - really nice in smoothies. Id give it a go!

Hi Michael,

I did try some green sapotes a couple of months ago for the first time up North and I love the taste very much, much nicer than mamey sapote.
